In short

In 2026 Shopify released three Editions: Winter '26 (December 2025), Spring '26 (June 2026) and Fall '26 (October 2026). For a store in Mexico, the most useful items are installments without interest (meses sin intereses) and OXXO with Shopify Payments, Sidekick (its AI assistant) with more tasks, and the tools to test changes before publishing them. The most eye-catching feature, selling inside ChatGPT or Google, currently requires selling to customers in the United States (or other countries) and does not apply to a store that sells only in Mexico.

What are the Shopify Editions, and which ones came out in 2026?

They are the packages of new features that Shopify announces several times a year; Winter '26 and Spring '26 each brought more than 150 changes. On its official page, the three most recent are:

EditionNameDate
Winter '26RenaissanceDecember 10, 2025
Spring '26EverywhereJune 17, 2026
Fall '26ExponentialOctober 28, 2026

If you searched for "Shopify Summer '26": the mid-year 2026 edition is officially called Spring '26. Many sites call it "Summer" out of habit from previous years.

What did the Winter '26 Edition bring?

The central theme was artificial intelligence inside the admin. Shopify described Sidekick, its assistant, as a collaborator that anticipates what you need and suggests actions, that can generate code and make changes under your supervision.

  • Rollouts: schedule, test and publish store changes from the admin.
  • SimGym: a "flight simulator" for your store, which tests changes with simulated shoppers. It was released as a research preview.
  • Agentic Storefronts: put your products inside conversations in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot.
  • Products with up to 2,048 variants, more flexible inventory transfers and POS Hub to connect checkout hardware to tablets.

Many features in that edition are US-only (for example, most of those for Shopify Balance and Shopify Capital). One that does mention Mexico: credits on transactions with USDC, a cryptocurrency pegged to the dollar, for the United States, Mexico and Hong Kong.

What did the Spring '26 Edition bring?

The June 2026 edition focused on selling "everywhere". For Mexico, the concrete news was installments without interest as a payment method: the page itself says it lets customers in Mexico pay in installments with MSI (meses sin intereses). The Shopify Help Center clarifies that it applies only to credit cards in pesos.

  • Agentic plan: businesses that are not on Shopify can upload their products to the Shopify catalog and sell on AI channels and in the Shop app. The pricing page for Mexico lists it at USD 0 per month; you pay only when you sell.
  • Shop Pay for any brand, even if its store is not on Shopify.
  • Campaign Autopilot for marketing campaigns and a bulk assortment flow in operations.

What did the Fall '26 Edition bring?

The most recent one, from the end of October 2026, connects your store with more AI assistants and rebuilds the internal assistant. The most relevant changes:

  • Rebuilt Sidekick: it does calculations, writes code, searches the internet and remembers what you teach it. You approve its changes before they are applied.
  • Connectors with nine AI assistants, including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity, to manage products, orders and inventory from the assistant you already use.
  • Canvas, to design the store in a single view, in early access.
  • Seven local payment methods in Shopify Payments, including OXXO, for online payments.
  • WhatsApp: ask for marketing consent at checkout and send automatic messages to recover abandoned carts from the Shopify Messaging app. The page does not indicate country restrictions; confirm in your admin.
  • Review what AI agents see: approve the policies and frequently asked questions that Shopify shares with them.
  • Redesigned admin, which according to Shopify will soon be rolled out across all pages.

Which of all this applies to a store in Mexico?

Less than the headlines suggest. This table summarizes what we could confirm on Shopify's official pages as of November 2026:

New featureApplies in Mexico?Detail
Installments without interestYesWith Shopify Payments, credit card in pesos
OXXOYesStore and customer in Mexico, in pesos, from 10 to 10,000 MXN; does not work for subscriptions or POS
Sidekick, Rollouts, CanvasNo country restriction indicatedCanvas in early access; SimGym was a preview
Selling inside ChatGPTOnly if you sell to customers in the USThe store can be located outside the US
Selling on Google (AI Mode and Gemini)No, for domestic salesRequires selling to customers in the US, Canada or Australia; being enabled gradually
In-person payments at a physical store with Shopify PaymentsNoShopify Payments does not process in-person payments in Mexico
Shopify Balance, Capital, automatic taxesNoMarked as US-only or for other countries

What it costs you: turning on features designed for another market and paying for apps or setup time that do not generate a single sale for you.

Can I sell in ChatGPT from a store in Mexico?

Only if you sell to customers in the United States. The Shopify Help Center says that, for the ChatGPT channel, your store must sell to customers in the United States, although it can be located outside. In addition, your products must be eligible for the Shopify catalog, you must have your service, privacy and returns policies published, and B2B-only products are not accepted.

For Google AI Mode and Gemini, Shopify requires selling to customers in the United States, Canada or Australia, and clarifies that the channel is being enabled gradually. In short: if you export, it is worth checking; if you sell only in Mexico, for now it does not change your sales, but it is a good idea to keep your catalog clean (titles, photos, descriptions), because that is the foundation of any AI channel.

What changes in Shopify in 2027?

The only official 2027 date we found is technical, but it may affect you: on March 1, 2027, "script tags" scoped to all pages stop working in the store, an old way in which some apps inject code. The Fall '26 Edition confirms that apps can no longer create or update script tags.

What to do: ask your app providers (reviews, chat, pixels, promotions) whether they still use script tags and when they will migrate. If an app stops working, you will notice it in the storefront, not in the admin. Shopify has not announced a 2027 Edition with a date; when it does, we will update this article.

What should you do now with your store?

  1. Turn on the local features. If you use Shopify Payments, check installments without interest and OXXO (OXXO is turned on manually).
  2. Test before publishing. Use Rollouts to schedule and test changes instead of editing the live store.
  3. Use Sidekick with control. Let it propose and you approve. The rules in how to implement AI without taking risks apply here too.
  4. Clean up your catalog. Clear titles, photos and complete policies serve Google today and AI channels tomorrow.
  5. Review your apps before March 2027.
  6. Connect the operation. The store's new features do not solve invoicing or the warehouse. If that is still entered by hand, look at the complete flow of an order or an Odoo implementation.

At NIQERA we work with Shopify as a partner and set up online stores connected to payments, shipping and ERP. If you are still deciding on a platform, start with Shopify or the Odoo store.
